The context Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) supports researchers and organisations across Ireland in moving their work from the lab towards real world impact and commercialisation. As part of that journey, SFI wanted to give the organisations it supports a practical introduction to service design — a way to think beyond the technology or research output and focus on the people, systems and experiences that would ultimately shape success in the market. The brief was a one day, on site course in Dublin that would introduce the fundamentals of service design without overwhelming participants. It needed to be accessible, relevant to research driven organisations, and immediately useful for teams thinking about how their work might become a service.
