Introduction to UX for Cochlear Europe medical software engineers

An eight-week online Introduction to UX course for Cochlear Europe's medical software engineers, combining practical UX fundamentals with the realities of regulated medical technology development.

The context Cochlear is the global leader in implantable hearing solutions, and its European medical software engineering teams work on products that sit at the intersection of health, technology and strict regulatory requirements. While the engineers had deep technical expertise, many were new to user experience design and wanted a practical foundation they could apply to their day to day work. Cochlear Europe asked Gerry Scullion to design and deliver an Introduction to UX course that would work for a fully online, geographically distributed team of medical software engineers. The course needed to be practical, paced over time, and relevant to the constraints and opportunities of building medical software. What we did Over eight weeks, Gerry delivered a fully online Introduction to UX course for Cochlear Europe's medical software engineers. The programme was designed to fit around engineering schedules and to connect UX concepts directly to the work participants were already doing. The course covered: 1. The fundamentals of user experience design. What UX is, how it relates to product development, engineering and regulatory processes, and why it matters in medical technology. 2.
